Exercise Time

My little teddy bear was over the other day and decided he wanted to do some curls at least that's what we thought when we saw this.

Of course a little slobber never hurt anything.

Feel the burn?

Our New Babies

Well it's official, we are now foster parents. No we don't have little kids running around except when my CTR's are here. Our new babies are of the four legged variety. My niece and her husband adopted these "fish" about two years ago. When they moved to a new apartment about a month ago the lease said no pets, but a few of the other residents have them so they thought it would be okay. Well come to find out it wasn't. So now we have the cutest "fish" in the world living with us. I know you're probably a little confused at this point since I said they were four-legged but "fish". Well their names are Guppy and Betta. If you want to know the story behind their names just let me know and I'll tell you.

Betta is the shy one, but she is starting to warm up to me which surprises me as I'm not much of an animal lover. If I had to choose between cats and dogs, cats would win.

Guppy is more the social of the two except when it's time to take pictures, then he's a stinker. He reminds me a little of a cat we used to have when Daryn was two. Same coloring but doesn't have the same slobbering problem which is a good thing.

No sibling rivalry here.

I Love to See the Temple

Yesterday I was in Liberty making some visits and decided to stop by the temple site. As I drew near the bend in the road on I-435 I wondered if when the temple is completed we would be able to see it from the distance. I love thinking that the temple is a beacon. I'm sure someone else who is better at putting thoughts into words would be able to eloquently put the symbolism I feel with that. Anyway, I could see a construction crane as I was driving and soon could see the top of the frame work. I was so excited for that.
This image isn't very focused, but the other ones are better. I took this just before you get to the round about and tried to zoom in. My camera doesn't do very well when I do that, but whatever.
The next two are from a different angle and I think came out better.

The following is one that I took five weeks ago. I find it fascinating that once a certain point is reached the construction seems to go very quickly and then ebbs again.

Snow in Seattle

Here in the Midwest we are used to snow. An inch or two here or there doesn't really phase us too much. That is not the case when it comes to those living in the Seattle region. To cut them some slack, they aren't used to it since they don't get a lot of snow. Even with that, let it snow just an inch and the whole city just seems to shut down. Of course this was happening on the day I was scheduled to return to KC. Let me tell you of my adventure.
It all started Sunday night with the first snowflake. They just kept coming off and on all through the night until finally it started to look like this.

Being from the Midwest I wasn't concerned too much. Then I see the lady who was to drive me to the airport walking up the street. That was my first indication that this was going to be an adventure. Cindy (my ride) arrived promptly at the designated time about two hours before departure time. Since my parents live about 20 minutes from the airport two hours was plenty of time. That is plenty of time on a day when the streets aren't covered with snow.
My next sign that I may not make it home was seeing all the vehicles getting stuck on this one particular hill. The Seattle area is covered with hills so driving does get a little tricky when snow covered. It had taken us 30 minutes to get to this point when normally it takes 5. I knew I was in trouble at that point and I started saying a little prayer in my head that I would be able to make it home. When we saw the stuck cars, trucks and even a city bus, we turned to go up another street. We couldn't make it up that one either. Not because of traffic blocking the way, but Cindy's car didn't have good tires on it. She had chains in the trunk, but neither one of us knew how to put them on. She then called her son who thankfully was at home with another one of her sons and they met us at a nearby school. We were able to maneuver back down the hill by the way.
They get the chains on the tires and away we go. By this time it is 50 minutes until the plane is scheduled to depart. I'm constantly checking with my phone to see if by some miracle it is delayed. Of course it isn't, but we keep going. We have to take side streets at this point, because the mains are all jammed with traffic. People stopping to put chains on, as well as those just stuck. I'm still praying that I will make it in time. I wanted to come home so badly. 2 1/2 weeks was too much to be gone from my family and I was missing them terribly.
We finally arrive at the airport at 12:00. My plane is scheduled to leave at 12:13. I race to the ticket counter with Cindy behind me. One of her sons came with us after putting on the chains for "just in case" The agent behind the counter asks for my destination and I give her my response. She just looks at the clock and says I doubt it. The gate has probably been closed. She then proceeds to check alternate routes. Remember this is the week of Thanksgiving, the busiest travel time of the year. There are no more flights. Well I'm standing there (how can I say this delicately) doing the potty dance. There's a gentleman behind me waiting to check in so the agent asks me to step aside since my situation is going to take some doing to make it work. So while she is helping him I go take care of business while Cindy stays with the baggage. While I'm gone a miracle happened. Somehow the flight had been delayed. Gee it couldn't be on account of the weather now could it? Fortunately the plane had not left and in fact was still boarding. The ticket agent then proceeds to take me directly to the security gate so I don't wait in line. I pass through and race to the gate. I'm sure it was quite comical to see this old fat woman running down the hall. I get to the gate show my boarding pass and continue to race when I see that there are still people on the gangway. I was the last one on board, but I made it. Even my luggage made it on the plane which in itself is a miracle. The agent had told me it may not. I didn't care at that point, I just wanted to get home. To me, all of this to me was an answer to the trivial plea I made to get home and a miracle to boot.
My dad sent me this picture. It's just an indication that I think I made it out just in time.

Attitude of Gratitude Day 20

1. I had the wonderful experience of hearing an apostle of the Lord, Elder L. Tom Perry, speak in person. I am thankful for that opportunity. I will also get to hear him speak tomorrow.
2. I am grateful when something I bake/cook turns out well since I don't like to play in the kitcchen. Unfortunately that didn't happen today. I guess I should have checked the blender to make sure it had been rinsed since the last time it was used. Since it's not my kitchen, I assumed it had been knowing my mom the way I do. It may not have been the blender, but something is making the cherry delight taste soapy and heaven forbid that in this house food gets wasted because it tastes like dishwashing detergent. Next time I will remember to rinse before I use.
3. I am grateful that my dad was willing to drop what he was doing and go to the store to get an ingredient I forgot for said dessert.
4. I am grateful to have been able to slepp until my usual waking time. Of course that was probably helped by the fact that I woke up twice during the night and had a difficult time retunring to sleep, but just the thought that I "slept in" was delicious.
5. I am thankful for auto save functions in computer applications. This caters to this lazy typist.

3. Chiropractors. Boy do I need one right now.
4. Microwave popcorn, especially the mini bags.
5. The things this time of the year helps me to remember.

Attitude of Gratitude Day 18

1. I am grateful for my mother's visiting teacher. Not only is she her VT but she is also her friend and will go above and beyond the "call of duty".
2. My Dad ran an errand for me today and for that I am grateful. I needed to get some temple clothes for Daryn and he willingly drove the 45 minutes to the local distribution center and got them for me so I could go to the quilt show with my mom.
3. I am grateful that my mom didn't get mad when I broke her "toy". It's not a bad break. It's just that neither of us can fix it and I have to take it to the shop. That unfortunately means I probably won't get my last project done before I I fly home, but I did get the things done I needed to. In my defense though, it wasn't on purpose because I didn't know the way I was unthreading the machine was wrong.
4. I am grateful to discover a new way of doing something and that it will be fun to do now.
5. Tonight I am thankful to be able to go to bed. It's been a long, but fun filled day.

Creativity in the Works

I thought I would post my latest project and part of the process. The machine does most of the work. I just change the threads and push a button.

I take a blank piece of fabric from this...

To this...

To this...

To the completed block.

This what I have done so far for the project.

This I what it is supposed to look like when it is completed. Of course it won't look exactly like this because I will put my own personal touches to it, but this is the idea.

Attitude of Gratitude Day 17

2. Food
3. Shelter
4. Income

Yet Another Finished Project

Sometimes I don't like completing a project. I am the type of person that needs something to make. I need a project going at all times. I do not having multiple projects all at once. Most of the time I have to complete a project before going on to the next one. That isn't always the case as I can think of at least three no four projects that I have yet to complete. Three of them are knitting projects and after my brush with tennis elbow I'm. A little gun shy about picking it up again. There are times when it still hurts a little. The other is a cross stitch kit that would be useful this time of year if it were completed. Well I completed another blanket. This one is for my other angel. Lucky for me I have another project already started.

Attitude of Gratitude Day 15

1. Big picture windows even if all I can see is grey.
2. When something works in the place of something else so as to not make an unnecessary trip to the store.
3. Feeling better after being ill.
4. Copy machines.
5. Getting free stuff.

Attitude of Gratitude Day 13

Today is a toughie cause the blue monster is attacking with both barrels, but I'll see what I can do.
1. Worldwide Training is today and I don't have to miss it since it's being broadcast here too. Hence why it's called worldwide.
2. Crayons and coloring books. It's fun to just enjoy simple pleasures. I even sometimes will color outside the lines, just because I can.
3. Good hair days, 'nuff said.
4. Quiet moments
5. Ancesters, without them I wouldn't be here.

Attitude of Gratitude Day 12

1. Being able to spend time with my mom. Seriously, it's been good.
2. Having my mom fix the same meals I had when I was a kid. Last night we had sauerbraten, rot kohl and mashed potatoes one of my favorite meals. This is a good childhood memory.
3. Chocolate, most all of the time will make anything better.
4. Hearing a friendly, familiar, voice is enough to cheer me up.
5. My mom wanting to show off something I've done. I can't remember the last time that happened.

more finished projects

Another project by my mother. She really likes Christmas things.

More towels
Gifts for the ward Relief Society presidents in the stake. I'm not happy with the way they turned out, but at least I learned something from it.

I needed some new towels so I thought I would jazz them up a little.

These are some of the projects I have been working on while visiting my folks in WA.

Attitude of Gratitude Day 11

(I didn't make this quilt,my mother did. Ijust wanted to show it off.)
1. I am sure glad that analgesics are available to take when I am in pain.
2. I am thankful for inspired church leaders.
3. I am grateful for the ability to think and figure things out.
4. You know how when you wonder if something you want to work will work and then finding out it does? Especially when it comes to modern technology. Yeah, I'm thankful when that happens. All the pictures with this post happened that way. Now. I just have to figure out how to cut and paste on this phone.

5. Today I am thankful for the feeling of acomplishment. I enjoy completing a project. In fact I enjoy the whole process of creating new things. When the project turns out well, the sense of accomplishment is wonderful. Of with me that doesn't happen often that I like the way something turns out, but at least I try.
